History of Gambling

Gambling is associated with wagering money on an event whose outcome is uncertain.

Gambling hence requires three elements to be present chance, consideration and the prize. The roots of gambling come from early Europe and China. Many games such as Roulette, Blackjack and Craps have their origins in Europe and other games like Keno and Poker were originated in ancient China. The earliest evidence comes from around 2300 BC where the Chinese used tiles for gambling. Egyptians also used ivory dices around 1500 BC. Roman history has a lot of evidence about gambling wherein emperors used to gamble with dice.

The oldest poker chips in history: there is evidence of first playing cards being used in the 9th century in China. It then spread through Asia in the form of Mahjong tiles and came into picture as cards in 14th century in Europe.

By the end of 18th century, many games like forms of blackjack, roulette and poker become popular among people as gambling games. Slot machines were first introduced in the 8th century and gained quick popularity. In early1900 brick and mortar casinos became more popular and attracted a lot of people and became casinos what they are today. From Vegas to Macau these land casinos still attract a lot of people all around the world.

Then came the concept of online gambling in the form of online games like Slots, Video Poker etc. Many sites even provide free play.
